Having been a little static for a while what a joy it is to finally be losing some weight. Banded on 30th July by Dr Chris in Belgium I really was a cool cucumber but deep down was really worried that it wouldn't work and I would have a certain someone telling me that I had wasted my money.

31st July felt slightly better - sore tummy but ok. Had the soup the hospital give you and one of the dutch crispbreads and a little bit of tea. Plus they give you a bottle of water in the morning and again with the soup. Managed a little of both of these. Had a cuppa soup that night in the hotel could only manage a little bit.

1st August - breakfast in hotel had a yoghurt and a cup of green lemon tea oh that was nice. Sat outside after a little while just because I felt to hot. Amazing how you react to anaesthetic.
Still sore around the tummy and difficult to straighten up but getting better every hour. So happy. Went back to room and packed and then sat on hotel deck for the majority of the day chatting to other patients - now weight loss buddies, and feeling ok. Taxi was at 4 for Eurostar home which I wasn't looking forward to. Anyway said bye to some of the others and we were left to wait. Taxi ride great as the taxi driver took the motorway! Much smoother than on the way when the daredevil taxi driver was speeding along (FAR TOO FAST).
So train wasn't too bad but walking with a rucksack so hard. So glad I had my husband with me! Just wouldn't have managed a bag and a rucksack. Anyway soon home and in my own bed. Amazing how you sleep when you feel comfortable.

2nd August - decided I wanted to weigh even though weight loss buddies had said don't you may be dissappointed. I wasn't I was over the moon - wow I'd lost 6.5 lbs what a feat!
So today I would have the children come back and I was going to have to manage. I had a yoghurt for breakfast and some water. Children home and my dad took me to the supermarket. That was hard pushing a trolley but oldest was putting bits in the trolley for me. So home and had some soup. Did the childrens lunch aswell and amazing I am really watching what I give them (I was always careful before but I think I have become quite anal about it all now!) may not be a bad thing.
Dinner - I made a chorizo and vegetable stew and took some out and processed it down then took three dessertspoons out as it was quite thick and then added water to it to thin it out. Kept the other bit for tomorrow's lunch. It was delicious and I felt full fairly quickly. I will post the recipe as it's lovely to have on a winters night when you want comfort food that is nutritious.

4th August 2010

Lets start with yesterday - a lot easier as I am able to move better, less swollen on the tummy and the pain is less. Did the injection on the first night home and last night not too bad but naughty me I have taken the stockings off - just had enough of them.
So 3rd August had a so so day, food wise fine Herbalife shake processed with apple, yoghurt and a crushed vitamin tablet. Kept me going through the morning in small sips.

Decided to go and get some veg from the veg patch in the garden. I couldn't believe that the courgettes were like marrows so one green & one yellow courgette later I was in the house washing, chopping and preparing dinner. I didn't think the rest of the family would be happy with courgette soup so I made them Turkey chilli with courgettes and mushrooms. Took ages to prepare and then gently simmered in the oven.

I then set to making a courgette soup which I wasn't sure I would like but I must say it was delicious.
However, they say that families can fall apart over weight loss surgery and I had my first experience of this last night. My husband was serving dinner with a small portion of rice and ladeling loads of the turkey onto it. Suddenly because of something I'd said about "not too much" due to the rice portion being small, the plate was thrown into the cooking pot and he had stormed off. There erupted an arguement about how I had alientaed myself from the family because I was eating different things. Is there some jealousy there? Told him to grow up and that I had taken responsibility for not climbing into a wooden overcoat!

Carried on sorting out dinner and ressurrecting the plate and food that had been chucked, not one for backing down I asked him whose it was and when he said his I said well the portion of rice on the other plate is rather large so I don't think the one you were serving was yours. His response I was splitting it evenly between us all. My comment back well that's where you are going wrong the children don't eat the same portions as you!

All eventually settled but still we haven't talked about it and to be honest if he has issues then he has to deal with them as I am trying so hard to work with this and stay focused, I can't afford to be derailed!

Water - finding it difficult to drink the litre but other bits going in during the day.

Today (4th August) I have had a yoghurt to eat but hard to finish and then a cold cup of coffee! Timing is everything. I decided I would weigh I have now lost 9.5 lbs (includes pre-op loss) and I am 5 days post-op. This is amazing and yes I know it will slow down and plateau until the body adjusts or I have my first fill.

So glad that I have done this and should have done it sooner!

1 week post surgery

Weigh in day today ohh I am so looking forward to this .... scales read 17st 6.5lbs a 9lb loss since banding wow!
Plus I am also recoding my inch loss - can't get out of the habit as I have when I use the herbalife products. Amazing 4.25 inch loss all over the body. Just brilliant.

I didn't have such a great start to yesterday as I was distracted by my youngest and busy trying to get the day started and ate my yoghurt far too quickly! Yes I really paid for it in that it got stuck and eventually after some discomfort came back up white and fluffly looking. I know TMI! But the lesson learnt was that I must take my time and take it easy! I didn't dare have anything for a fair few hours. Also I expected to be sick like when you have a stomach bug but actually it was nothing like it and was very gentle! I know how can anything be this gentle.
Anyway, lesson learnt and onward and upward.

Have a good day.

I'm wondering if it's worth recording what I eat so that I can keep a track?

Probably worth it especially if I want to ensure I am getting enough each day. I'll dig a notebook out and try to keep a daily record should be fairly easy after the mushies stage.

Much better over the last few days I started keeping a diary from Saturday and working out the calories. Very interesting.

My usual intake is about 500-700 cals made up of either porridge (186 cals) or yeo yoghurt (approx 124 cals) for breakfast then soup e.g. homemade or covent garden approx 150 cals per serving (food processed) or a Herbalife shake which is approx 234 cals if made with smoothie. The Herbalife supplement is 89 cals per 26g serving and rich in protein!
Dinner varies between soup (homemade), or a couple of dutch crispbreads with houmous (125 cals)

I managed the litre of water yesterday plus some more and felt better. I was a little more active aswell so overall feeling good.
I weighed today as I like to gauge if I am still losing (I need the motivation aswell) and yes it was 17st 4lbs so another 2.5lb loss total of 11.5 pounds in 10 days. It will be interesting to see what I will have lost by the end of week 2.
I know this is all going to slow down and I am prepared for that. I know there will be weightloss, inch loss and no loss with plateaus and how these will have to be kick started.

I had a sort out of my clothes last night decided all my big clothes were going to be sorted for the recycling bin. So I have organised my wardrobe into sizes. Sad I know but after I reach a size 18 I don't really have anything smaller so I am going to have to buy a new wardrobe temporarily until I get down to another size. What a nightmare but I look at this as a new chapter in my life and as we had decided we weren't having anymore babies then it was a new body and about time too!

Anyway, have a lovely day and enjoy.

So it's two weeks since I had the band in and I'm feeling like I could bounce for Britain!
I have been keeping a food diary and it's been interesting what goes down well and what doesn't.
My main staple is porridge in the morning and then a herbalife shake for lunch which tends to roll into the afternoon as part of my liquid and then for dinner it has been a variety of different soups either homemade or Covent Garden Co. I only seem to be managing between 500 - 800 cals per day depending on how much I can eat. It's small portions but I fill up really quickly. I have found Crackerbreads which I have with some philladelphia cheese these are a nice little snack and they go down well after they have been chewed.

I had chicken soup last night and found that I had to chew the soup very well. Some of the chicken tried to get stuck but did go down with some persuasion.

I finally went to the toilet - I know this might seem a bit near the mark but you have to be very open when you've had a procesure like this, so first proper poo since day 4 of being home on day 13.

-------------------------------
It's weigh day today and I have excitedly got up to weigh and measure and I'm not disappointed.

I have lost another 3 pounds and 5 inches all over.
So total loss is 12 pounds and 8.25 inches in two weeks.
Overall I am very pleased.

My husband said to me last night your shrinking! I was really pleased about that. Will get him to do some post-op two week photos for the gallery as I know that my shape is changing and I have lost weight off of certain parts. I can't wait to see what it's like at the end of the month.

Have a lovely day and enjoy.

I have been sorting out my train tickets to London.

I'm booked for a fill in London on the 24th September at 13:20 and I am planning to have a fill each month or possibly every 2 months but shall play this by ear and see how the weight and inch loss goes.

At the moment the amount I am eating is just right and I feel full very quickly.
Probably in another 4-5 weeks I will be ready for the fill.

Anyway just a quick post

Have a super day.

TREATS

So I have been debating whether I should treat myself when I reach little mini targets? Or was having the band the big treat I was giving myself and therefore I just wait till I have no clothes in the wardrobe??

I have a fill booked on the 23rd September so could wait until then and see how I feel and how much I have lost. Then perhaps book into a Spa for the day and have some fun or perhaps go off for the day and do something lovely away from the children etc So many decisions.
I am 2 lbs off my first stone so I shall see if I can get to 2 stone by 23d September and go from there wow that would make we 16st 1.5lbs. I bet if I read this back in a few weeks I will be saying I shouldn't have counted my chickens etc. Well lets just stay focused and on track.

Well off to plan lessons for next term and to carry on completing my coursework. I also have a diploma to finish so that I can teach Pregnancy Yoga as a pukka teacher rather than a trainee. A lovely part of my life that I thoroughly enjoy.

Have a lovely day, weather isn't great but then can't complain it's the summer hols!

I thought I would do a pre-check weigh in as I have my GP appointment this afternoon and also we are going on hols tomorrow for a week so will miss my weigh in on Friday!

I can't believe that since the 30th July - 17 August (18 days) I have lost 14.5 lbs (1 stone and 1/2 a lb). I know not a lot compared to some on here but I feel so chuffed that it's coming off!

So please don't lose heart if you aren't losing or are thinking about having a band --- it really does work. I have looked very closely at my food intake as well - keeping a food diary and I manage 4 distinct eating periods. Just about getting in 700 calories but the Herbalife shake twice a day is helping to boost that to nearly 1000 cals a day. Thank goodness at least I know I am getting all my vitamins, minerals and protein in it.

Take care

Morning campers! Hi de hi! Oh how I love Ruth Madoc well at least impersonating her.

So we are away camping and oh boy if you ever needed a challenge in the first month of being banded this is it! Is there anything that you can have on the restaurant menu? Probably a slim chance that they might have soup. Do you get odd looks when you ask if you can have that with everyone elses main course? Oh yes (said the Churchill dog!) will you manage not to say what you have had done - of course you will!

So what have I tried and wished I had steered clear of? Plenty! So is it good to have a cream tea? Probably if you are normal but then if you have a band you might find it a little difficult to swallow! We decided to all go halves with two scones and the jam and clotted cream (sounds lovely doesn't it?) so one bite into a half and I feel like I have swallowed a load of concrete and it is duly offered to one child who woofs it down in seconds.
Next on the agenda - try some fish as they are having fish & chips. So agree I'll have a small fish. Again fish lovely and chewed and chewed but I think it was the batter that finlly did it and all the way to and back from Port Isaac I felt very I'll and eventually threw up! TMI!
Final treat was a Cornish Pasty without the pastry? Again big mistake as it got stuck and had to go & get rid of!

So food has been challenging this week but then the weather finally came good two days before the end of the hols and we are sat in lovely sunshine and the children are off bouncing on the trampoline in the children's area.
Looking forward to going home and having a huge last push at clearing the house ready for classes to start in September and going back to school! Plus I get to weigh and measure as I have missed a week and would really like to know how I am doing clothes feel loser and I feel fitter so that's a positive. Will post when home. Have a fun day!

The bedraggled, soaked, cold family return home in the most attrocious weather. Yes it rained and rained and rained - you're getting the picture - good. Two children duly dumped in the car while mummy and daddy on "wet" weather gear pack up around them and pack a very wet tent into the car. It was awful. We weren't ale to pack it properly so had to squeeze the tent into the footwell of the passenger seat so my journey to Bristol (180 miles) was not as comfortable as it could have been). Thank goodness there is an underground car park at The Mall so we rearranged the car and vola the tent went in the boot. Yipppeee!

My reward was a lovely bowl of spicy tomato, bean and goat's cheese soup - just wonderful! and some retail therapy. I managed to find a belt as my trousers were falling down and I needed to keep them up. Plus one of our bridesmaids had her GCSE results and we were so pleased for her 8A*'s, 2A's and a B - just brilliant. So I have bought her a momiji doll to keep for ever.

Anyway washing to do now and first load is on and about to be sorted.

Have a good day - back tomorrow as it's weight in day!

Evening all

Tried posting yesterday morning as I wanted to share my weigh in but there were some technical difficulties.

Anyway great news I lost 6 lbs over the week and a bit as I wasn't able to weigh since the 17th due to hols. I also lost 5.25 inches all over. WOW that's just brilliant!
So total weightloss is 18lbs and 13.5 inches. Just brilliant in 4 weeks. Really pleased.

Have a lovely evening.

bounce bounce bounce bounce bounce bounce bounce

I have lost 1.5lbs and 2.5 inches
So total loss is 16 inches and 19.5 lbs
Really pleased. I have also had a few solid meals aswell which I have chewed and chewed and they have gone down. We are so sociable at dinner that we chat about our days etc and this is really hard as you so need to concentrate so I find that dinner takes a little longer that's fine except that it is cold when I am near the end.
So I have an assessment today and yesterday I purchased a beautiful new top which is just gorgeous and makes me look slimmer! So wearing it to make me feel very positive!
At yoga last night one of my clients said "Have you lost weight?" so I was really pleased as I didn't think anyone would notice. I know that I have and my clothes are very baggy (and are starting to look silly) I am hoping to drop down to a smaller size in the rearranged wardrobe so another few weeks and hopefully I will be there.
I am amazed that I am still losing as there are other bandsters who have had wonderful loss for the first few weeks and then come to a standstill. The only thing I can put my loss down to is that I am really strict about how much I eat and what I eat. Plus I also have a herbalife shake most days to ensure I get the protein, vitamins & minerals.
We'll see what the loss is like next week.
Anyway have a lovely weekend and I'll pop in again soon.

Hello all

Had a bit of a tough day (or rather I should say early eveing) in the passing of ody fluids etc. Just to say that I am really missing eating salad and fruits and need to find a way to get them in, so looks like I will be putting them in my shake.
Anyway apart from this painful experience I seem to be managing now I am back at school. I have been taking in soup and crackerbreads with phiili cheese. This has been fine but I have noticed that I am really thirsty. I suppose I need to concentrate on my hydration otherwise it will make me feel poorly and also impact on the other end!
Once we have been back a few weeks life will start to get into a pattern and become a bit easier. I have my fist fill on the 23rd so looking forward to being checked and making sure that I am doing ok and to ask a few questions about fills and long haul flights etc.
So just quickly popped in whilst I wait for the home delivery.
Take care and will be back on Friday as I have my weigh in!

Have a lovely evening.

Weigh in day

I have noticed that I have been feeling really tired but I have put this down to my long days at the moment with being back at school. Thankfully today is Friday and I have a clear day and no school. Work starts again in a few weeks with a baby massage class so should be a very relaxed day. I digress I had a feeling weight loss may have slowed and caught sight of myself last night in a mirror and was appalled at how I looked there are certainly some clothes that I need to avoid wearing as I looked absolutely dreadful. I'll do some 6 week post-op photos to see if I can see any difference.

Anyway down to business I have lost 1.5 lbs and 1.25 inches so a loss but significantly different to previous weeks. Total loss is 21 lbs and 17.25 inches all over. I have a fill in a couple of weeks and this may help although I have been told the magic number is 3! I think I will be able to manage 2 before we are away as I don't want to waste a fill if I then have to have it taken out to fly. So plan to have September and then October fill and then wait till January.

So plan of action I am going to start off doing 15 minutes on the crosstrainer at home and gradually build it up and see if this will help to maintain the weight & inch loss a bit more. Off to the GP this morning to have my bloods for my thyroid checked (which was flagged up when I was in Belgium being banded) and am due my annual check.

Have a lovely day.

Morning all

What a beautiful day...

Washings out, children in school, all organised for my lovely day I am going to spend with babies doing massage and it's weigh day.
I am so chuffed I have again lost 4.5 lbs and 3.75 inches - this is just brilliant. A total loss of 25.5 pounds and 21 inches! I am going for the fill next Thursday so hoping that this will continue the loss. I can't believe I am just flabbergasted that I am still losing. It's great and yes I know I could have a reality check and big bump to earth and suddenly stop losing but that's fine we'll work with it.

Anyway, have to dash as lots to do, life just got a little manic.
Have a lovely day and will be back later to post about food!

Hello All

I had my 1st fill today in London at Upper Wimpole Street. I went early and then had a little treat doing some retail therapy (only bought 3 gingerbread men in John Lewis for the children and Mark) and had lunch there as well. That was lovely I had tomato and basil soup and then walked out onto Cavendish Square and up Harley Street and then cut across onto Wimpole Street and then Upper Wimpole. Very easy and quick, although the rain was dreadful!

Very professional service at the Vein Clinic. It was lovely to meet other band clients and share. I had my fill done by Chris Dupres - very pleasant and exceptionally professional. Fill didn't hurt just took a while to get in. But fine. I could feel the fluid going in (bit odd) but all ok. He was impressed with how much I had lost in terms of weight and inches.
So I had fill today and am booked again for the 28th October and then I will go again on the 25th November and then wait until January as we are away.

Will post tomorrow as it's weigh day. Not holding my breath as I have had an awful week and felt really poorly with this horrible virus! Don't think I will have lost anything at all.

Anyway take care.

Hello All

Weigh in day today and wasn't expecting too much as I have had a dreadful week feeling very inwell, lost voice, very sore throat and generally feeling under the weather. Had my first fill yesterday and finally (may be TMI) I went to the loo aswell!

So I weighed and I had lost a pound and a half and an inch and a half. So now up to 27lbs lost and 22.5 inch loss. So at least I am still on the loss pathway and hope to stay there for the next month until I have fill no. 2 in October.

Had a good day today as I am on liquids for the first 2 days after a fill, then mushies for 2 days and then back on chew chew chew! Definately restriction there as I found out today drank a cuppa coffee to quickly and it was gurgling and glugging around. Eventually went down ok. Felt a little odd but all well. Plus I had a cheat/treat - some ice cream which unfortunately didn't want to go down and had a difficult time with that. So having to relearn what I can have and what I can't have.

Anyway off to finish my soup and get ready for tomorrow.
Have a lovely weekend

Take care

Claire

Morning all

Well I had my fill last Thursday with Chris and he asked me not to be disappointed. I am delighted as it is weigh day today and I have lost another 3 lbs and 2.75 inches. So I am really pleased!

How has it been well I have tended to stick to soup for the week. I have had crackerbreads with some homous or philli cheese. But I haven't really had lots of solid food. I did have dinner the other evening which was cottage pie, peas and carrots. I have taken to having pureed baby fruit as I love fruit and am missing it like crazy.

First day after the fill wasn't pleasant as a few things tried to get stuck but after this I was more careful and stayed clear of certain things.

One of my colleagues at work asked me about my appointment on Thursday she didn't know what I had gone for and I don't like to fib so I just asked her if she could see a difference. She guessed sraight away that it was weight related and has enough savvy to know that if it has come of this quickly and said gastric band - I was so shocked and wanted to know who she knew that I knew! We are a small place and everyone knows everyone. But to her credit she said no what are women most hung up about their weight, their image or their hair and clothes! We are quite fickle aren't we!! So she was really curious asking lots of questions and like she said to me you only ever read about people having it done in magazines and never know someone in "real life" so she was asking me loads of things. I must add she is skinny as a rake! So two at work now know and they are both really supportive.

So looking forward to my next fill at the end of October and hoping that I keep losing. I would love to hit the US at least 50 lbs lighter and have some half decent photos with Mickey Mouse!
I know I'll eat these words!

Have a lovely day.

So it's that time of the week again, weigh day!
It's a kinda magic! Yes it really is.
I have lost 1.5 lbs and 3.5 inches. Absolutely brilliant. I must admit I am so careful over portion sizes and what I have. Still not really having lots of things that I need to chew loads, the odd chicken here and there. So really chuffed! Just happy that I have had a steady loss each week and that it is very gently coming off and I feel so much better, look better and have a boundless energy that I haven't had for a few years. So pleased that the band has been a positive addition to my life. I did think it might not work but actually the proof is there to show that it does and is and so pleased that no one can say well that was a waste of £x amount.

Anyway, off to baby massage in the moment so shall close and come back and visit in the next few days.

Take care and have a lovely day

Week 11

It's been a little hellish this week with the band. I have had two days where I have found it very difficult to eat properly, losing the contents of my stomach after a two forkfulls and generally just feeling very unwell. Yoghurt has been my saviour.

I have weighed thinking I wouldn't have lost anything but I have lost 1.5 lbs and 1.25 inches so a loss which continues to be steady and I am pleased about that.

Okay I will be back but life is a little manic and there could be a lovelt birth today so off to sort out the children and organise my day.

26 hours out supporting a new familyinto the world. Really highlighted to me how organised I have to be when called to a birth and what to pack in my bag. We got through it which is the main thing.

But on a different note I was chatting to my brother-in-law this evening as he hadn't seen me for a little while and was amazed at how much I had lost. We were talking about targets and he has a wager that I will get to 12 stone (168 pounds) and find that I won't want to lose anymore because I will look just right. He did say that a body that has done years of exercise like mine has developed muscle and therefore it's difficult to reduce that. I would like it to be toned and firm. I know that there will have to be some assistance in the boob area and also in the tummy area due to the overhang from having had a c-section. But those I am happy to go with. I also know that I need to go back to the gym and start power walking and burn the addiditonal fat off rather than building more muscle. So we will wait to see if I am happy when I get to 12 stone and decide to go any futher with the loss. I may be happy and then again I may not be. But I do need to be healthy which is important.

Anyway enough musings ... time to get some sleep and catch up on the hours I have lost.

Back soon ...

So week 12 has come and I really didn't think I would have kept losing weight each week but I am amazed. I am due to go for my 2nd fill on the 28th October.

This week I have lost 1 lb and 1.25 inches. I have my monthly so not really expecting too much. Will be interested to weigh before I go on Thursday although official weigh & measure day is Friday.

I will update ticker on Friday and be back to post then. It's half term and so ready for the rest!

Have a good week all,

Week 13

Had my 2nd fill yesterday of 2mls so in total have 5 mls in the band. I definately have restriction now and oh boy I know it! I am hoping that it will ease off after a few days but finding it difficult to get water down and certainly nothing more than that. Yesterday was pretty horrendous as I was sick quite a few times.

But good news is I have lost weight another 3.5lbs and 2 inches. So total weight loss is 37.5 lbs and 32.75 inches. It's phenomenol really.

I have to get ready to go to teach so shall come back later and let you know how my day has been.
Take care all

Well not good feel completely drained and everthing I have tried to have has come back up. Feeling very tight and not sre really what to do.

Phoned one of the three London emergency numbers to discuss this with one the ladies there. She was very helpful and said to see if it eases in 24 - 48 hours and to try and keep with the boiled water as this is the only think I am able to keep down at the moment. I don't feel hungry but know that my body needs nutrition just so hard when nothing seems to want to go down and just keeps coming back up.

We'll have to keep an eye this and see how I feel. I may decided not to have my November fill of 1ml especially with going away on hols as I want to be able to enjoy the hols and not constantly be thinking about how I am feeling.

Sure that this will ease off and get a little easier as I don't fancy having to have an unfill!
Anyway back in a few days to update. Reading my posts back has been really interesting as I talk about plateauing etc and seem to have done so well so far.

When I have discussed this I have been told that this is probably because I have been so good in terms of portion sizes and what I have been eating. I try not to have anything that will get too stuck and my staple is soup. crackerbreads & philli cheese.

Anyway have a good few das and I'll be back to update.
